What Historical Figure Was I in My Past Life?

Reincarnation is a big claim. So let's start small and just figure out which dead person you used to be.

Somewhere in the vast filing cabinet of history, there's a version of you. Maybe you signed a treaty. Maybe you broke one. Maybe you spent a decade painting a ceiling and complaining about it the whole time. The point is, you left a mark, and then you left the building, and now here you are taking an internet quiz in your pajamas. The soul contains multitudes. The soul also has a lot of free time.

This is not a serious historical instrument. No carbon dating was involved. But there is a certain kind of person who reorganizes the office and calls it a reform, and history has seen that person before. There is the friend who cannot sit through a dinner party without staging a small coup over the appetizers. That energy is old. Ancient, even.

The questions are simple. Do you want to be feared or adored. What would you spend five years building. How do you take a loss — gracefully, or by burning the correspondence. Answer honestly, or don't, though the deceased tend to know.

The results skew dramatic. Some people were revolutionaries. Some were the strategists whispering behind the revolutionaries. A few were the ones who invented something useful and never got paid for it, which, frankly, tracks. Nobody comes out of this as a mildly successful regional bureaucrat, and that feels like a mercy.

Think of it as a horoscope with a body count. A mirror held up at a flattering angle. The past is a large place, and most of it is populated by people who were absolutely certain they were right.
